Searching for the right newborn photographer can be an overwhelming task by itself! Especially while preparing to create a human being and to become a mother... I'm here to make this process easier for you!
Let me start with the basics. Photographers are like any other profession out there. To get good at what they do, they need to practice a LOT! Since we don't need licenses or certificates to start, you can find someone charging from ZERO to $2K+! Every photographer starts trying to build a portfolio. It's very common to see model calls and giveaways among us.

What you decide to spend will come down to several different factors. The more you get from the variants below, the more you will spend on your newborn photo session.
- Photographer experience
The more years of experience, the more the photographer will move up to the next price tier. Moving up gives the photographer the ability to decrease the number of sessions per year. They start providing a higher level of service and personalization. The photographer starts solving clients' pain points. More experience could also bring more confidence and consistency in their work.
- Included services
The more services a photographer has to offer, the higher the session cost will be. Think about the costs related to a few options... wardrobe, hair, makeup, products, consultation calls, in-home photo sessions, video, and film. To offer these services, the photographer had to invest in education, third parties, products, wardrobe, etc.
- Number of images
Time is a photographer's most important asset. The time spent shooting could be minimal compared to the time post-shooting. Editing time could be a long part of the process when delivering high-end images. Many photographers will offer different packages based on image quantity.
- Shooting location
Costs will vary depending on the shooting location as well. If the photographer has a studio or rents a space, there will be costs related to it. With in-home shooting, the photographer might travel long distances, taking more time per session. With in-home sessions, photographers won't be able to stack sessions. Typically the level of personalization of in-home sessions might be higher.

- Where do you want the photo session to be? Where would you feel the most comfortable? All these will impact the flow of your shooting. If you don't want to leave your house, make sure to find an in-home newborn photographer.
- Do you want to document your baby's details (hands, fingers, toes, and lips)? (make sure your photographer does macro detail shots, nor everyone does)
- Do you want to include the whole family? Do you want everyone posing and smiling? Do you want more natural and candid photos?
- Do you want someone who has experience dealing with newborns, toddlers, and families?
- Do you want to have photos documenting your family's connections? Do you want photos that translate the bond and the love that comes with your newborn arrival?
